FASA General Meeting Minutes
13 February 2017
This meeting was called to order at 11:19 AM at the San Antonio Garden Center, 2210 N. New Braunfels, San Antonio, TX by President Caryl Gaubatz.
Administration
- Minutes for general meeting held on 9 January 2017 are approved as electronically transmitted to the members.
- Treasurer’s Report is accepted as electronically transmitted to the members and filed for review.
Old Business
- Nominating Committee met and has candidates for all positions except 3rd VP, Runway Show and Secretary. The full slate will be announced at the March meeting.
New Business
- No new business
Board Reports
- 1st Vice President (Programs)
Bonnie Davis- The March program will be Deb McClintock: “What Color is Your Valley”; Deb uses natural dyes she produces from plants, bugs, nuts, roots, etc.
- April’s program will feature our own Miki Rodriguez
- May is the installation of our new officers
- 2nd Vice President (Annual Exhibit)
Jean Dahlgren and Dale Jennsen- The show was disassembled on 28 January
- 107 art works by 51 artists
- 10 pieces sold
- 3rd Vice President (Runway Show)
J’cil Horn- Tickets are on sale today; $60 each or you can purchase a table for 9 if you have a group that wants to attend together. Bring your ticket to enter the style show and the luncheon (two separate tickets).
- Ads are for sale in the program: contact J’cil Horn
- We will be accepting sponsor donations in three categories; these sponsors will be recognized as supporters in the program: Gold $15; Silver $10; Bronze $5
- Silent auction: Bring items to the March or April meetings. The proceeds go to our scholarship funds.
- Raffle: $20 for 20 tickets, there are five prizes you will drop your tickets into the collection boxes for each prize you want a chance to win. Winners do not have to be present to win; proceeds go to our scholarship funds. Must buy tickets at the meeting; they will not be available at the door.
- 4th Vice President (Scholarships)
Sherry Christensen- Please contact Sherry if you know of an organization that may benefit from our scholarships funds. The organization must have a program in fiber art or fashion design.

Lyn Belisle- Has met with J’cil regarding publicity for the Runway show
- Our Face Book page is a great way to publicize your own artwork and FASA so please post to the FASA Face Book page any work you are doing, exhibits you are in, etc.
- Community Service
Peggy Foerster- Thank you to those who donated small artwork to benefit Say Si; Peggy can receive artwork for this fund raiser today and she will deliver it to Say Si.
- Thank you also to those who donate to the Food Pantry at Alamo Heights Christian Church.
- Don’t forget to log the number of hours you spend doing FASA’s work in the book at the membership table.
- Ida Spence: showed a Fidget Quilt that can be constructed for Alzheimer’s patients; kits are available behind the membership table. Also, kits are available to construct reusable feminine products for girls who need this overseas.
- Hospitality
Marty Wolins- Susan Mayfield is standing in for Marty while she is attending a workshop. Refreshments are needed for March; see the sign-up sheet on the table.

- Annie Centeno: Greater San Antonio Quilt Guild
- The Annual Quilt Show will be on 22-23 September 2017. FASA will have an educational booth at the quilt show and we need volunteers to man that booth. Volunteers will get a free pass to enter the quilt show that day; more information will go out via the Email Tree.
- Please consider entering your fiber art into the Greater San Antonio Quilt Guild Quilt Show. More information will go out via the Email Tree about entering.
- The Show will be at the San Antonio Event Center.
- Sherri Lipman McCauley
- Program sponsored by Weavers and Spinners Society of Austin (WSSA ) and Austin Fiber Artists of Austin (AFA). Author and playwright Stephen Yafa presenting his in depth and insightful spin on cotton. His book Big Cotton (being re-released as Cotton) is a delightful and entertaining look at cotton from many perspectives.

- AFA Shows
- ‘Packed with Color’
- an Austin Fiber Artists Exhibit to be hung at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport, Austin, Texas from May 22-August 31, 2017.
- Six glass pylon cases will be utilized for the exhibit.
- Artwork must be original and adhere to the strict size and weight limitations. Interior case measurements are 14” wide, 16” deep and 48” tall. All art must fit within these dimensions. Two glass shelves (12”x11”) may be used and adjusted to accommodate the artwork. Weight limit is maximum of 30 pounds.
- ‘Stretched Threads’,
- an Austin Fiber Artists Exhibit to be hung at the Copper Shade Tree and Fine Home Galleries, 102 Schumann Lane, Round Top, Texas 78954 from October 25-November 11, 2017.
- Artwork must be original and completed after January 1, 2015, and not have been part of a previous Austin Fiber Artists Exhibit.
- Each piece must be primarily of textiles, but may incorporate other materials.
- Gallery restrictions dictate that all entries must be mounted on a stretched canvas, 12”x12” with 1.5” sides.
- ‘Celebrating Fiber’
- Exhibit to be hung at Shalom Austin (formerly the Jewish Community Association of Austin)– on the Dell Jewish Community Campus at 7300 Hart Lane, Austin, Texas 78731, from December 4, 2017-January 15, 2018.
- Artwork must be original and completed after January 1, 2015, and not have been part of a previous Austin Fiber Artists Exhibit.
- Each piece must be primarily of textiles, but may incorporate other materials.
- Exhibit restrictions dictate that all entries must be able to be hung on the wall. All hanging apparatus must be included with artwork. Please do not include any religious imagery.
- ‘Packed with Color’
- SAQA – Studio Art Quilt Associates
- Sherri Lipman McCauley is one of three reps in Texas.

- Central Texas Circle meetings-Every other month (odd numbered months) second Saturday @ 10am. Meetings typically include lecture/demo/discussion, ‘show and tell’, SAQA announcements and lunch.

- FASA is partnering with the Glass Guild to host an art exhibit at the Kerrville Arts and Cultural Center
- FASA has a separate contract with the art center

- Artwork must be delivered on Aug 21 and the show will be 24 AUG 24 to 25 SEP

- Susie Monday
- 10th Annual On and Off Road Studio Tour
- Weekend of 18-19 FEB
- Susie’s studio will be on the tour with 5 guests artists
- 40 studios will be open with 100 participating artists
- Catalogue is $10 until the tour starts, then $15
- Door Prizes were awarded
- There is free shirting fabric available in the back of the room brought by two of our guests.
