FASA General Meeting Minutes
10 April 2017
This meeting was called to order at 11:11am at the San Antonio Garden Center, 2210 N. New Braunfels, San Antonio, TX by President Caryl Gaubatz.
Administration
- Minutes for general meeting held on 13 March 2017 are approved as electronically transmitted to the members.
- Treasurer’s Report
Diana Kellerman- The Treasurers report is deferred
New Business
- San Antonio Stories of Migration Quilt Project
Susie Monday- 2018 San Antonio will celebrate it’s Tricentennial
- A proposal has been made to the city for a grant to support a community project of constructing a 300-block quilt celebrating San Antonio’s Stories of Migration
- 5 or more community workshops will be held to help individuals design a quilt block to be included
- Each block (12 x 12) will tell a story
- Overall design and supervision of this project will be by Susie Monday and Bernice Williams

- Election of new board members for 2017-2018 fiscal year

Motion Made: Leila Reynolds made a motion to accept the slate of officers by acclamation
Second: Shirley Bugosh
Vote of membership was by show of hands: all members in good standing voted in favor of this motion; there were no nay votes.

- 1st Vice President (Programs)
Bonnie Davis- Thank you to Miki Rodriguez for presenting the April program
- Next month is the installation of the new board officers
- 2nd Vice President (Annual Exhibit)
Rebecca Segura reporting on 2017-2018 exhibit progress- Title: FASA 43rd Annual Juried Fiber Art Exhibit
- Juror: Doshi, nationally known fiber artist from Encinitas, CA www.doshifiberart.com
- Place: UIW Semmes Gallery
- Dates will be finalized mid-summer
- Online submission platform, demo at August meeting
- Flat, sculptural, wearables, and collaboration pieces are acceptable
- You can enter up to 5 pieces
- Will have a Storylines display again (Carmen)
- Timeline is going to move fast, so I need your help in spreading the word about this call
- Entrance fee for members is $30; nonmembers $35
- 3rd Vice President (Runway Show)
J’cil Horn- 129 garments submitted by 31 designers
- Turn in is Friday from 10am to 4:30pm at Robin Early’s home: 205 Geneseo
- Must be finished when delivered
- Juror will begin at 5pm, so the 4:30 cut off for delivery is an absolute hard line
- Individual tickets still available along with a couple of tables; if you want a table, contact J’cil directly, the remaining tables are not available on the website
- Parking: free, there are maps at the membership table; large lot east of Sunset Station and another south close to the Alamodome
- Updates will go out via email blasts
- Raffle and Silent Auction: 100% of proceeds go to scholarships
- Margaret King Stanley: 5 raffle items at the back of the room; tickets are $20 for 20 tickets; today is the last meeting day to purchase tickets, after today you can get them at the Runway Show; you do not have to be present to win
- Rheta Kissler: silent auction; we have many items including clothing, wall hangings, jewelry for the auction, but can accept more. If you have something to donate for this auction, call Rita for pick up.
- Joan Termini: In charge of the cashiers for the Runway Show; still needs some volunteers to help collect money for the artists and silent auction; you will need to work only 90 minutes. Also need help in garment room to prepare the sales tickets.
- 4th Vice President (Scholarships)
Sherry Christensen- 3 May, FASA will host the event at the garden center by providing refreshments
- Bob Webster from Shades of Green will be the speaker
- If you volunteer to help, you can attend the program free
- Next tour would be at Jean Dahlgren’s studio on 11 MAY 2017 at 10:30am
- Jean will be teaching two classes at SSA this fall: Dying 101 and Mark Making
- Fi-Bar: Today was Cynthia Anderson showing how she makes remnant quilts; Linda Talley will show how she creates boxes at a future Fi-bar.
- Scholarship monies that are collected at May 6 Runway Show through the silent auction and the raffle will be awarded by 31 AUG 2017

Peggy Foerster- Thank you to all who donated to the Say Si auction: our donations netted about $2,700 for Say Si
- Days for Girls and Fidget Blankets: See Ida Spence to get a kit to help with these very worthy community projects

- Is teaching Art on the IPad (how to use apps to produce designs that can be commercially printed) starting 9 May for details or to sign up see her website: SusieMonday.com
- Sandy Edsall
- Shared her concern that we do not have a chair for the Runway Show next year; it is a heavy responsibility, but members volunteer to help and whoever steps up will not be alone.
- Caryl Gaubatz
- The next board meeting at 9am at the Garden Center on 8 May will include both the current board and the incoming board.
