Phyllis Jordan opened the meeting at 10:03am at the San Antonio Garden Center. Marilyn Davis, Martha Thompson, and Monica Brown were our guests this morning. Phyllis said we would open with a report from the Fashion Show Committee, have a brief comfort break, present our featured speaker, Joanne Peak, and her program, and then end with the remaining items on the business agenda.
Officers’ Reports
Runway Show- Ida Spence reported the show is on track. Ninety seven garments with a little over twenty accessories will be shown. Due to advance ticket sales (55 for Friday and 150 for Saturday), they are expecting a good turnout for both days. She also thanked everybody for the support the committee has received especially mentioning the fantastic help with making the leaves for the table decorations. However, they still need volunteers to help with the show on Saturday. Although parking will not be a problem on Friday, it will be limited on Saturday due to other Botanical Garden. Everyone was asked to carpool and/or park at the Alamo Heights Methodist Church parking lot. There will be a shuttle bus operating from the church to the Garden Center.
Leila Reynolds reported that they had lined up incredible vendors this year. Lyn Belisle has sent out several e-blasts about the vendors. Leila encouraged FASA members to forward these e-mails to all their family and friends to encourage attendance. There will be no entrance charge if anyone just wants to browse through the vendor section.
The business meeting was suspended at 10:20 for the program and resumed at 11:42am.
The second half of the business meeting opened with approval of the previous month’s meeting minutes.
Education – Jean Peffers told us that now that FASA is a member of the Garden Club, we will be asked to occasionally help with refreshments for the Club’s monthly meeting. Our turn for this is coming up. We are being asked to work with the Prickly Pear and African Violets’ groups to provide refreshments for the May 6, 2015 meeting. Also the Bead Society Show will be held the first week in May at the Schertz Civic Center..
Programs – Susie Monday provided the following list of monthly programs. Our May meeting will be the installation of officers followed by a pot luck lunch. There will also be a quick presentation on how to use the computer. In June we will have a presentation from the curator of the McNay Art Museum. The July program will be announced at a later date. August will feature the annual Artists’ Buffet. And in September, we will have a presentation by Margaret King Stanley.
Annual Show – The Annual Show will be held at the Plaza Club in the downtown Frost Bank building. Jean Dahlgren urged all FASA members to begin thinking about what they would like to enter in the show. There is more than adequate exhibit area and the only size restriction is the 8ft ceiling. Parking is free after 5pm.
Treasurer – Joan Termini was unavailable. Phyllis Jordan reported for Joan that our checking balance was $16,385.04 as of March 31, 2015.
Newsletter – Shirley Bugosh reported that our website is working well with the PayPal feature. It has processed a number of requests for Fashion Show tickets.
Community Outreach – Peggy Foerster thanked everyone for the food and money donated to the Church Food Bank and reminded us there is a sign-up sheet for volunteer hours. We need this for our IRS reporting requirements as a 501(c)3 organization. Please record your hours and don’t just check the IRS requirement block.
Membership- Sue Corbett reported that we now have 154 members.
Satellite Meeting – There will be a satellite meeting this evening at 6:30PM at Robin Early’s home. Robin will soon not be able to host these meetings due to other commitments. We need a volunteer to continue hosting the meetings. Please contact Phyllis Jordan if you can pick up this activity. These evening meetings are for all fiber artists who cannot attend our regular monthly meetings during the day.
The FASA business meeting was concluded at 12:03pm.
