Phyllis Jordan opened the meeting at 10:06AM. The April general meeting minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter.
May Program – Shirley Bugosh gave us a quick tour of our FASA website including a handout which showed the Home Page with inserts identifying the various categories of information and a page explaining how you can get to our website, how you can search and navigate the Home Page, what you will find in the body and footer of the Home Page. One of the prominent categories was the listing and brief description of our monthly programs. Shirley explained that the easiest way to understand the website was to think of each category as a file cabinet full of interesting information of items in that particular category. The website is very well done, easy to navigate, pleasing to view and fun to use with informative and timely information, and there is a link to Facebook. It is also a secure website. Some of the information is available to the general public but some of the information is “protected” or only available to FASA members. Shirley then showed us a number of different ways to find or search for the information you want. All in all, everyone agreed that our new website is a very well done project.
Fashion Show –Phyllis thanked Ida Spence, Dian Lamb. and all the FASA members who contributed to the Fashion Show. It was well received by the majority of people who attended the event.
Nominating Committee – Ida Spence and Dian Lamb both indicated that after the excitement and effort of putting on the show, they needed to return to their personal and professional responsibilities so they are resigning their positions as 2nd Vice President. Jean Peffers of the Nominating Committee said she has two names of people who have agreed to be nominated for the 2nd VP position, Sandra Edsall and Georgia Zwartjes. There were no further nominations from the floor. The membership voted unanimously to accept Sadie and Georgia in these positions.
Programs – Next month (June) we will have Jody Blake, curator of the McNay Art Museum as our speaker. In July, we will have the marketing director for the new San Antonio fashion school as our speaker. August will be our Artists’ Buffet. We have seven fiber artists who have volunteered to do demonstrations of their particular technique. We have room for two or three more artists to participate as the Garden Center gives us plenty of room for this event. In September our own Margaret King Stanley will be our speaker. October will be our annual cobweb sale.
Annual Show – Yvette Little said we should start preparing our artwork for the Annual Show. Last year we had thirty three artists participating. We would like to have more artists this year as we will have plenty of room for our exhibits.
Fashion Show – Dian Lamb indicated we have several bottles of wine left over from the Friday Night piece of the Fashion Show. We are selling them for $6.99 a bottle. Ida Spence said she had several lost and found items. If you are missing anything, check to see if anything Ida has might belong to you. Ida and Dian both gave a heartfelt thanks to all those members who helped with this year’s show. Evaluations from show attendees are available for review at the back table. We had a good number of responses from the Saturday event but not so many from the Friday evening event.
Treasurer’s Report – Joan Termini reported that she has not been able to close the books on the Fashion Show as many of the sub-committees have not filed their final reports.
Newsletter/Website – Shirley Bugosh said we had a 52% rate of members who actually opened and presumably read last month’s newsletter. We also have had 5383 hits on our website and we are growing in this area. Our best day for use of the website was March 11 when we had 131 hits. We also have lots of likes on Face Book.
Community Service – Peggy Foerster said we will continue to donate to the Alamo Heights Christian Church food bank. We do need to keep track of the hours and money we spend on causes like the Church for IRS purposes and to keep our 501 (c) 3 status.
Another good project we help support is the Crochet Coral Reef project. This project is and international program and a city wide project in San Antonio. The idea is to make damage and environmental impact to coral reefs better known.
Education –Jean Peffers thanked everyone who provided food for the recent Garden Center meeting. She encouraged FASA members to attend the Garden Clubs monthly meetings held on the first Wednesday of each month. She also mentioned that the Garden and Botanical Center have a $13million dollar ongoing update project.
Membership – Sue Corbett reminded us that it is membership renewal time. You can renew on the website but be sure you complete the entry. If you use PayPal, you will get a receipt printout. Currently, we have 156 members.
Publicity – Lyn Belisle said as Newspapers and other publications go digital, it is getting harder to get public service announcements published. She asked everyone to give her a list of any family, friends or acquaintances who would be interested in fiber art activity. She can then compile our own master list to send out fiber art activities and other publicity articles.
Refreshments – Kitty Janiga has served as our refreshment committee chairperson for five years. She has decided to step down from this position. If anyone is interested in taking over Kitty’s position, please volunteer now.
Announcements – Sandra Bloom is helping disperse Kathy Furukawa’s art supplies. These supplies cover multiple media. Sandra needs a committee to help sort through and help sell or otherwise dispose of Kathy’s ample supply of items. Contact Sandra if you want to participate in this effort.
Installation of Officers – The slate of officers presented by the nominating committee last month were all installed. Phyllis thanked all those who served this past term for their tireless efforts in helping to keep our organization running. She also thanked the incoming officers for volunteering to step into these responsible positions.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:15pm and everyone was treated to a delicious pot luck lunch.
Respectfully submitted,
Anne Winsett, Secretary
