FASA General Meeting Minutes of 9 SEP 2019
The meeting was called to order at 1002 by President Deb Harris.
Education Chair Sherry Christensen introduced Mary Flores, a tenth generation Texas rancher who can claim a relative who died atthe Alamo. Mary Ruth is a multi talented Renaissance woman. She shared samples of quilts, knitting, macrame and felting.
The minutes were approved as electronically transmitted. Pat Schulz remarked that rules for non-juried portion of the annual show had been changed after 12 AUG, and that grommets would not be inserted in submitted “pieces.”
OFFICERS REPORTS
1st VP- Phyllis Jordan – Programs-There was a high turn out for the Beth Cunningham Make and Take on 12 AUG. The October program will feature a Cobweb sale.
2nd VP- Connie Akers– Annual Exhibit- Process of entry is complete. Acceptance & rejection letters will go out this week. 65 pieces were accepted to be shown. Connie reported that 135 pieces had been entered,62 were accepted,73 not accepted. Sue Benner (juror), Connie Akers (curator) and Sherri Lipman McCauley (co-curator) were given the opportunity to hang a piece in the show, resulting in a total of 65 pieces in show (62 by jury). Items are to be hand delivered to UIW on 8 OCT. UIW will hang the show and provide refreshments for the reception..The Opening will be 11 OCT from 6-8 PM. Sue Benner, juror, will be present at the opening. Pat Schulz announced that that over 30 entries had been submitted to PIECES. A great variety of techniques will be on display.
3rd VP- J’cil Horn – Fundraising- Fashionista Garden Party will take place at the GC on Saturday 14 march 2020. Tickets= $35.00.
There are several ways in which FASA members may participate:
1. Vendors may submit their applications in OCT or NOV.
2. Makers of wearable art are encouraged to submit their entries by OCT FASA meeting.The 15 most outstanding will be selected.
3. 15 volunteers are needed to adopt and decorate tables. They will be asked to provide napkins, a center piece and 10 small party favors. Table theme may be ANY artist or designer.Center pieces may be donated as a Silent Auction item.
4. Provide items for raffle baskets. We seek “experiences” rather than things.
4th VP – Deb(acting) announced the recipients for the scholarships/educational funds: University of the Incarnate Word Fashion management Dept. Fibers DEPT. at Southwest School of Art, Educational programs at SAY SI.
Treasurer- Anne Winsett– Anne read the monthly financial report.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
WEBMASTER- Shirley Bugosh will give a ten minute in service on “How to clear your cache” to persons who are unable to access the password protected sites on the website.
Hospitality- Nettie Birnbaum thanked Lily & others who helped with refreshments in her absence.
Education- Sherry Christensen– October Studio tour features Vicki Siptak. Meet at Vickie’s at 1030 on Thursday 24 September.
Membership Chair- Peggy Baxter. Peggy introduced the new members and guests.
Blingfest will take place 28-29 SEP at GC. FASA will staff a membership table in the courtyard where fliers with info on FASA will be offered. Peggy passed out membership packets to new members.
Kim Paxson is stepping down as chair of eMail tree. Laurie Brainerd will take her place.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mary Frances Spear has volunteered to assume the role of 4th VP.
Lynn Belisle announced that the San Antonio Art League & Museum was presenting “Jane Dunnewold: Artist of the Year” exhibit. The exhibit will close on 26 OCT . Jane will present a talk at the closing. As part of this exhibit FASA members will present a pop up shop on Saturday & Sunday 21-22 SEP 1100-1600.The Blingfest ,28-29 SEP at the GC, will feature 31 vendors
Susie Monday promoted her class “Collage on the IPad .”
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1048.
