We were invited by the librarian at the Forest Hills Library to set up a small exhibit of fiber artists’ work in their entry way space. Thanks to these wonderful FASA members for stepping up to participate in the “I Felt Creative” display:
Cynthia Anderson
Peggy Baxter
Shirlene Harris
Amy Jones
Eleanor Khattar
Susan Lanford
Mark Steinhelper
This is a delightful display of felted art objects. Take some time to go view this mini-exhibit through March 23rd. The Forest Hills Library is located at 5245 Ingram Rd, San Antonio, TX 78228. See: www.mysapl.org for map.
In addition, I am working to get a FASA member volunteer to do a small class for library patrons at the library in late April or thereafter on a simple fiber art activity.
In late March I will be putting out more information about the Spring exhibit at the Forest Hills library, similar to the one that was held there last year. It will be a non-juried exhibit open to FASA members only. This year the theme will be Phases of the Moon in celebration of the moon landing anniversary. A monetary prize will be awarded based on popular vote.
Also, I recently started a conversation with a contact person at the Briscoe (Medical) Library at the UT Health Science Center. They are interested in seeing what might be possible for a fiber art exhibit at their facility. This is still in the discussion stage, so more to come on that possibility at a later date.
All of these opportunities serve the purposes that help to fulfill our organization’s mission: To promote appreciation and encourage support of fiber as an art form by the public through exhibitions and educational activities, and also to further serve educational, charitable and cultural purposes within the scope of our non-profit organization.
This is what makes me most appreciative of our members who DO get involved. Whether your involvement is as a participating artist, a volunteer helper, or a board member, thank you for making FASA shine as an organization!
