COMING
Saturday 3 October, 2015
The Fiber Artists of San Antonio will stage a communal dyeing workshop at the studio of Laura Beehler in Converse, TX.
Fifty fiber artists will join together in the dyeing of 50 yards of cloth!! This epic act of community building is inspired by the work of Hiroshi Saito, a living National Treasure of Japan. Hiroshi Saito is famous for two things: his art, and his ability to orchestrate acts of community-building around a long sheet of white cloth. Known as “Nozome,” these fantastic events are staged outside with groups of up to 100 people. Using brushes and natural dyes, Hiroshi supervises the collective colouring of 20-meter lengths of cloth. Nozome are about individuals coming together in wonderful acts of group creativity.
Laura Beehler and Caryl Gaubatz have adapted the Nozome idea to the Texas climate and Fiber Reactive Dyes.
The purpose of the FASA Nozome Project is three-fold:
- To establish esprit de corps and bonding among our members, build community, and generate enthusiasm for the 2016 FASA Fashion Show
- To introduce FASA members who have not yet had an opportunity to dye their own fabric to the Surface Designer’s Art.
- To generate community-dyed fabric that will be used to create your challenge garment for the 2016 runway show
