A NOTE FROM DEB HARRIS, PRESIDENT OF FASA: |
Greetings to you all! I pray you all are safe, healthy, and creatively productive. Earlier this month I traveled to another state to visit family and friends. If any of you had to travel, particularly by air, you know this is an unnerving experience to say the least. I went home just because I knew I needed to go to. I needed to see my people. To see home. To reinforce my roots. I did not need to reconnect because the connection was never broken. Regardless if your family lives nearby or far away there is always the need to see them, to have contact with them by more than just the telephone or teleconferencing. One of my other discoveries was my need to reconnect with my arts. My some of favorite arts include cooking, fiber, gardening, and photography. One of the advantages of going “home” is that your regular responsibilities are put on hold because they are applicable to “home”. Going home allowed me to be creative without boundaries. Naturally, I took full advantage of this opportunity everyday until it was time to return “home”. Going home was rejuvenating. Going home was in effect a booster shot. I saw familiar parts of home with new eyes, creative eyes, which will lead to new projects or adding a different twist to current projects. I saw new areas of home with fascination which sparked a desire to look at them, to evaluate them creatively. The most recent trend (on Facebook) is to challenge one another. One of the popular challenges is to share something, like your quilts, favorite art piece or pictures for a specified period of time. Some of these challenges for me are like going home. They reinforce your connection to your past. They show your creative path to where you are now. My challenge to you is to go “home”. Revisit your past, celebrate where you came from and marvel at your growth. Laugh at your memories but look forward to your future. Use those colors, tools, methods that were put on hold for any number of reasons. Create to show yourself and others the fun you are having now and will have in the future. Changing the subject – Our July FASA meeting will take place via Zoom. The San Antonio Garden Center is in the process of reopening. Even though they are taking every measure to ensure our safety, I felt it was best that we wait for at least one more month. If you are currently a member of FASA look for the information via E-blast. To restate my comment last month, this pandemic will not last forever. But in the meantime, we adapt. I look forward to seeing each of you via Zoom in July.
