November meeting will be Sunday the 10th at 2 pm at JeanDahlgren’s studio at 240 East Huisache, SATX 78212.
The 13 October FASA Spirited, Passionate, Uninhibited, Thoughtful, Nurturing, Innovative, Kind (SPUTNIK) meeting was attended by an enthusiastic, motivated group of artists, ready to dye! In fact, one artist wore a celebratory shirt that proclaimed “Eat, knit and dye!” Due to crowd size, we are requesting a return to BYOC (bring your own chair) rules for future meetings.

PIECES — Non-juried segment for the 2019 FASA Annual Show
36 people submitted work, go take a look at it!
We agreed the non-juried event is a great way to encourage people to create and show and would like to do it again next year. Anyone interested in running it, please reach out to Pat Schulz at gatoarte44@gmail.com

Discussion:
· BLINGFEST went very well. The FASA table brought lots of curious folks with several requesting membership applications! Peggy Baxter, the upcoming Bead Society President (starting 1 Jan, 2020), has a goal to bring the different art societies closer so we can all support each other.

· A returning FASA member, Mary Frances, told us about her return to work as a graphic designer. She takes on a handful of clients for branding and graphic design yearly, word of mouth only. She also produces amazing art, shown here: https://maryfrancesart.com/Gallery
· An artist brought in a wonderful fabric horse she had sewn and embroidered. The legs moved using buttons! So awesome!
· An artist brought in a piece she had put aside and then finally went back to and finished. She made a purse from the fiber art and encouraged artists to persevere all the way to the end to get their work printed and utilized in art somehow.
· An artist brought in items she had dyed with avocado. Beautiful pinkish tan. She later dipped them in indigo for a two-toned shibori look, gorgeous!
· An artist brought in gorgeous threadweaving examples. This same, incredibly generous, artist, inspired by an Etsy seller highlighted in the FASA newsletter, brought in bags of fibers, each wrapped on an individual card. The crowd went wild! And most went home with beautiful fiber!
